Cordoba City - the Second largest city in Argentina and home to 1.3
million people - was certainly a change from San Jorge and Pergamino!
By now the girls had been accustomed to travelling and being introduced
to new host families, Taborín School provided host families for the
Hockey, Tennis and Squash players. The Group was also joined by German,
a junior assistant of the Chase Foundation and Evert van Deventer,
another GAP student. The Basketball side was in for more travelling as
they settled in Cosquín, a city on the outskirts of Cordoba, and the
staff was invited to stay at the Headquarters of the Chase Foundation in
Carlos Paz.
During this leg of the tour, each sport discipline would receive a
individual venue. The Tennis side was hosted by the prestigious Cordoba
Lawn Tennis Club. This Club is well known for having produced
International stars in Tennis, and of course provided the DSG Tennis
Girls with formidable opponents! The Cordoba Squash Federation prepared
the squash players for individual clinics and
matches. Club Atletico looked forward to compete on their Astro
surface.
Cordoba city also offered many attractive tourism spots. The tour group
enjoyed a city tour, which highlighted some venues such as the
Cathedral, San Martin Plaza, the National University of Cordoba and, of
course, the exciting shopping malls! Francois Enslin brushed up on his
Argentine football by attending a classic soccer match at Chateau
Carreras, the Olympic Stadium of Cordoba!, and venue for the 1978 world
Cup.
The girls finally had a chance to meet and exchange their recent
experiences on their final day where they departed for Mendoza from
Taborín School. The basketball side also returned from their stay in
Cosquín and rejoined the group as they prepared to say good bye to
Cordoba city that following day.
Next destination Mendoza city!
