After an early breakfast in the Hotel, all were dressed warmly for the
excursion to the Andes Mountains on the border with Chile. We all
boarded the coach and made our way up to Uspallata, where a welcome
'Submarino' (Hot milk with a chocolate bar dropped inside) and a snack
were obtained and then we proceeded with the climb into the higher Andes
region. On arrival at the 'Puente del Inca' we stopped and were able to
walk over the natural sulphur bridge that spans the river below. What is
interesting about this river is that anything that is placed in the
waters becomes semi-fossilized (sulphurized) and as hard as rock after
forty days. Many artefacts of different elements that have been placed
in these waters are on sale by local arts and craft salespeople. A
natural Thermal spring gushes out all through the old baths
installations. An old stone chapel overlooks the scene. For many of the
Cast and Crew this was the first time that they had ever seen snow, and
what they saw was in abundance! Of course, snow frolicking and snowball
fights were part of the fun. Following our stop at 'Puente del Inca'
(Bridge of the Incas) we continued to the observation point of Mount
Aconcagua, highest mountain in the Americas, for a photo session. The
Aconcagua boasts a height of 6959 metres above sea level. From there we
travelled to Las Cuevas (the Caves) which is the last border post before
crossing under the Andes Range to Chile. Many of the participants
suffered from altitude sickness at Las Cuevas (3800m above sea level)
and were light headed, or suffered headaches. On our return via the same
route,
